The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me;
because the LORD hath anointed me
to preach good tidings unto the meek;

he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

Isaiah 61: 1

Prayer

Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and He shall hear my voice. Psalm 55:17

There is a need most urgent in our world today...Prayer! Earnest, heartfelt, consistent communication with the heavenly throne of grace that links man and God in a bond of faith and trust that no human agency or spirit of darkness can destroy. Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as we would a friend.

The power and necessity of a prayerful life should not be underestimated, for Satan and all his host tremble at the sound of every soul that cries out to God in humble supplication. If all mankind could know the power that lies within their grasp, the blessings that God so willingly longs to pour out upon His children, they would seek for it as for earthly treasure. All heaven must stand in awe as they see mankind who has been offered so much seek so little. Are we, as Christians, defeated, discouraged and disheartened because we lack commitment to our prayer life, spending too little quality time in the presence of Almighty God?

How many today truly understand the awesome, unfailing power of prayer? In the church, the home and our individual prayer time, we must bind our hearts diligently to our creator, thwarting the plans of Satan to steal, kill and destroy our relationship to God and our fellowman. Satan will cast upon our weak and weary hearts a sense of complete unworthiness and the fear that God will not hear or answer our prayer. Thus we separate ourselves from our only source of hope and victory. Will we continue to allow Satan to gain the advantage when the promises of God are only a prayer away? God desires us to pray, casting our every care upon Him in utter dependence. Though we may not always pray aright, the Holy Sprit, our comforter, will intercede for us, presenting our requests mingled with a sweet fragrance, before the heavenly throne (Rom 8:26). As the active, energizing agent in our spiritual life, the Spirit works with us, giving us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God, that the eyes of our heart being enlightened, we may know what is the hope of His calling and the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power (Ephesians 1:18,19). This mighty power will quicken our dead and lifeless spirit, bringing in its wake a change, a revival, a reformation of true godliness so sorely needed in this generation, and this will come only by earnest prayer, of seeking God on our knees with confession, repentance and humility of spirit. This Satan hates, this he will do all in his power to defeat, but it is our mighty weapon of warfare...a people on their knees!

When our minds are preoccupied with the daily cares of this life, we lose our vision, our need, our desire to draw close to God in prayer. We become right in our own eyes and feel no need of or dependence on the mighty arm of God. Our faith weakens, the link with heaven and the promises of God is broken and mankind suffers. Only when we as His people will humble ourselves and pray, and seek God’s face, and turn from our wicked ways, will He hear from heaven, forgive our sin and heal this dying and polluted land (2 Chronicles 7:14). We need the power of prayer to regenerate our hearts to greater faith in the promises of God, for Hebrews 11:6 states that without faith it is impossible to please God: for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. Satan can and will be defeated by those that place their trust in their Savior. By faith we cling to the promises of God and by prayer we ask and we claim the promises offered in such abundance by a loving Father.

With such power at our disposal, dare we neglect our time of prayer. It is the key in the hand of faith that unlocks the floodgates of heaven, refreshing a dry and thirsty land with the water of everlasting life. As we search God’s word, His promises will be found in great measure, bringing hope, joy and peace to our weary souls. That dynamite power that exploded with such fervency of spirit at Pentecost is still avialable today, and will crescendo with a greater force as the fourth angel of Revelation 18:1 lights the world with his glory preparing the way for the soon coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For this we must pray!

Prayer can turn the tide of this evil generation, but we need prayer warriors, those willing to stand in the gap for our families, friends and the church in these perilous times. We need to be a people on fire for the Lord, a people of prayer, a people of power, as God works in us and through us to reach a dying world with the promise of salvation. May the Lord bless us and keep us and make His face to shine upon us and grant us peace and victory. This we ask in His precious name, Amen
